A look inside your book

Review Requests

Hello Authors and Publishers! I’m so excited to see the books you have created. I get many review requests. As much as I wish, I don’t have enough time in the day to read every book that ends up in my inbox. To keep reading and writing enjoyable, I only read and review books that sound good and make me feel good. Below I have outlined my process and hopefully answer all of your questions. If you have any others, please let me know!

Submissions are CLOSED

I am not accepting review requests at this time. My reading pile is too high! If you want to know when it opens up again, subscribe to my exclusive newsletter just for authors. It’s not spammy and hopefully, I can give you some great writing tips and encouragement too! Feel free to read the rest of this page so your book is ready to go when I’m accepting again.

What genres am I accepting?

  • Christian
  • Contemporary Fiction
  • Crime
  • Fantasy
  • Graphic Novel
  • Historical Fiction
  • Humor
  • Mystery/Thriller
  • New Adult
  • Paranormal
  • Romance
  • Science Fiction
  • Sports
  • Urban Fantasy
  • Young Adult

Please, no erotica, short stories, autobiographies, magazines, comics, or story collections. Non-fiction book acceptance depends on the subject but generally is not accepted.

How long should my book be?

Books must be at least 100 pages, but I prefer books over 200-250.

How much do your reviews cost?

I don’t charge for my reviews. It would be a conflict of interest for me to accept payment from authors to promote their books when my readers expect an unbiased review. Instead, I ask that you promote the blog post I publish and, or collaborate with me on social media.

What can I do to have a better chance of having my book accepted?

I only accept high-quality books. Please ensure that your book is thoroughly edited, has a fantastic cover, and is listed on Amazon and Goodreads. Polish your summary and author bio! I can tell quite a bit about your writing style and whether I want to read your book from these short paragraphs. If there are any misspellings or blatant grammatical errors, I will not accept your book. (Hint: This applies to your book pitch too!)

I accept independently published books but hold them to the same writing quality and graphic standards as the larger publishing companies.

Make sure your book is a good fit for my blog by clicking through some of my posts. Some questions to ask yourself are: Is my book targeting the same audience? Do I like this review style? Does my book look professional?

What happens after I submit a review request?

I look through all the review requests that come in and respond to each request. Sometimes I ask for more information before I can make a decision. If your book meets my standards and I am interested in it, I’ll ask for a copy.

What format should my book be?

I prefer digital books because I love having a book or three with me all the time. Have your book in one of the following formats: EPUB, PDF, and Kindle. Book Funnels are okay, but not my preference.

What is included in a review?

My book reviews are typically 1,000-1,500 words long and include a section about the author. Each post has multiple links where readers can purchase your book. Every book review is shared with my newsletter subscribers and multiple times on my social media channels. You will get the first look at the post with an option to revoke it if you don’t like what I’ve written. Typically my reviews are positive, so don’t worry!

How quick is turn around?

Honestly, it depends on how many review requests I have at the moment. If you are worried about meeting an upcoming launch deadline or have recently launched a book, please include this in your book pitch. I will try to accommodate your timing and prioritize your book but it won’t always work out.

Do you participate in book launches or book tours?

These are done on a case-by-case basis depending on my schedule. Please email me directly at emily@thebooknanny.com to discuss the particulars.

Any other questions?

Hopefully, I covered all of your questions about submitting a book review request above. Please ask questions in the book pitch section below or submit a contact form if you still have questions.
